CRAPPIE
REPORT:
The crappie fishing on Weiss Lake has
been pretty slow over the last few weeks as
the fish are getting into their Summertime
patterns. The crappie have moved out into
the deeper water along the river channel
ledges and can be caught bumping bottom with
live bait in 14-18 feet of water around the
brush piles and stumps. Most of our
stringers have been averaging 15-20 per
Half-Day trip. The bite seems to be the best
during the early morning hours and is
usually over by mid-morning due to the heat.
BASS REPORT:
The bass fishing has been decent over
the last week with some decent fish being
caught all over the lake along the river
channel ledges. Most of the bass are being
caught in the deeper water as well using a
Carolina Rig or a deep diving crank bait
like the DD-22 or the new Bandit 700 series.
The bass are also holding really tight to
the cover so when you get that crank bait
down and hit the stump that is usually when
you will get the bite. There are also a few
bass being caught by flipping a jig around
the docks but you are still going to have to
find the structure. Fishing IN the
structure is the key to catching these fish
during this time of year. There have been a
few bass tournaments this past week that
produced a few 17-18 pound stringers but
most anglers averaging 10-12 pounds.
STRIPER REPORT:
The striper fishing has been decent
over the last week with some nice fish being
caught along the Coosa River channel below
the Cedar Bluff Bridge. Most of these have
been averaging 2-5 pounds but there have
been a few in the 8-12 pound range caught.
These fish are being taken along the river
channel ledges in 15-20 feet of water on
live bait. As the water continues to warm
these fish will be moving into Little River,
Yellow Creek and the Chattooga River in
search of cooler water.
I will be out on the water for the next
several days and I hope to have another good
report for you around the middle of the
week. Remember there is a 10 inch size limit
on Crappie on Weiss Lake and the daily creel
limit is 30 per person, per day! See Ya on
the Water...
